Assemble supplies you might need in an evacuation and store them in an easy-to-carry container such as a duffle bag or backpack. Store your “Go Bag” in a place where it will not freeze. It is a good idea to review the content once a year to check on items that may have expiration dates, such as prescription medicines. What to include in your Go Bag:

Most parents who recall their own college application process remember the SAT the same way—you took it once, got whatever score you got and then moved on with your life. Today, preparing for the SAT (or the ACT) has become a right of passage for kids. And parents are left to sort through the various and often expensive options of classes and tutors.
So in an effort to help you maintain testing perspective, here are a few suggested testing reminders.
Too many Westchester students believe that if you don’t have perfect grades, perfect test scores, and a certificate proclaiming that you invented plutonium in a fit of inspiration while at Rye Playland, you’re not going to get into college today. That’s just not true. If you’re a “B” or even a “C” student, you can still go to a good college if you want to. Here a few tips to give you even more college options.
Different colleges look for different qualities in potential students. But there are some characteristics that are appealing no matter where you apply, from Pace to Purdue, Harvard to Hofstra, Marist to Molloy, Vassar to…OK, you get the idea.
One of the goals of the Superintendent and the members of the Board of Education is to ensure that the community is well informed about the many accomplishments of our students, staff and faculty as well as the challenges facing our district. Currently, we provide information to you in a variety of ways: town hall meetings, school district website, Reflections - the district newsletter, Connect-Ed, public board meetings, public work sessions, cable broadcast of board meetings and our monthly public sessions at the Black Cow. We would like to expand our efforts by establishing a Legislative Action Network.

At the first indication of a potential problem at the plant, emergency officials might decide to relocate schoolchildren as a precaution. The children would be taken with their teachers by bus to School Reception Centers located outside the Emergency Planning zone. The School Reception Centers provide temporary care for children awaiting pick-up by parents. Children who are relocated to School Reception Centers will be registered and will stay there, under the care of school officials and daycare providers, until parents can pick them up.
Before being a stay at home mom, I was a special education teacher for 12 years. Over the years, I compiled a list of on line resources that I used in the classroom, not knowing then that they would be so useful as a parent. Most of the websites are free and have endless tools to help your child in reading, writing, handwriting, math or simply free coloring pages. These sites are great to enrich your child’s learning or to help them catch up. Here are my favorites:
C.H.A.R.M. stands for "Croton Humanities Arts Reflection Music." This is a program that focuses on the humanities, including history, language, law, literature, performing and visual arts, religion, philosophy and literature. Funded by a combination of a grant from the community group Arts in Our Schools (AIOS) and the school district, the board of education will discuss implementation of this experimental program and learnings thus far.
Virtual High School allows CHHS seniors the opportunity to take an on-line course offered by a world wide consortium of school districts. Students may take courses that we cannot offer at CHHS due to our size. Selections include Advanced Placement courses, courses in creative writing and genetics, and advanced (college level) mathematics classes (to name a few). Our students in these courses have classmates from around the world. Some of our students who completed their first VHS course during the first semester will share their experiences with the board of education at the January 20 workshop.
