One of the goals of the Superintendent and the members of the Board of Education is to ensure that the community is well informed about the many accomplishments of our students, staff and faculty as well as the challenges facing our district. Currently, we provide information to you in a variety of ways: town hall meetings, school district website, Reflections - the district newsletter, Connect-Ed, public board meetings, public work sessions, cable broadcast of board meetings and our monthly public sessions at the Black Cow. We would like to expand our efforts by establishing a Legislative Action Network.
What is the school district's role in advocacy? The Croton Harmon School District has been a leader in advocating on behalf of our students and residents. We are a founding member of READ (Regional Education Advocacy Districts), serve on the Board and Legislative Action Committee of the Westchester-Putnam School Board Association , The Lower Hudson Education Coalition Joint Policy Committee and are active members of the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA).What is the network and why should I join? Participation in the Legislative Action Network allows district residents to learn about key federal, state and local legislation and regulations that impact our children, our schools and our taxes. Participation in the network is voluntary and is open to all motivated and interested district residents. Why is it important for the community to get involved? Elected officials listen to voters. You will be able to lend your voice to advocate for the children in our district. What must I do? We ask that you serve as emissaries of the district - share the facts with your friends and neighbors, attend special public meetings, respond and encourage others to respond to the calls for action and work with the Board's Advocacy Committee in its role as adviser to the Board of Education. How do I join? You need not have children in the school district to join the network. Getting involved is easy. Please go to www.croton-harmonschools.org for more information and to register.
I'm not so sure, now what? If you would like more information, please contact our Superintendent, Ed Fuhrman (efuhrman@croton-
