The Executive Director of the National Scholastic Chess Foundation, Sunil Weeramantry visited Furnace Woods School on Tuesday, September 29. Weeramantry, who is one of the most successful chess coaches in the country, met with fourth grade classes to teach chess techniques, strategy, and execution.
After a thirty minute instructional period, students formed groups and had the opportunity to practice their chess skills together.
Last week, Weeramantry met with the third grade classes and he is scheduled to return to FWS to teach the first, second, and fifth grades.
