I will not pick up and take home any baby birds, turtles, snakes, frogs, squirrels, rabbits, unless they are obviously injured and need to get to a rehabilitator.
If I pick up an animal that is injured, I will not try to take care of it myself. Instead I will get it to a licensed and trained wildlife rehabilitator.
If I have an outdoor cat, I will put a bell on his collar so that wild animals have a chance to not become his plaything.
I will use one of the “safe” salts on my walks and driveway so that animals won’t get their feet burned and my grass won’t get burned.
I will clean up any spills of radiator fluid or oil from my car to prevent birds or other animals from thinking they can quench their thirst with poison.
I will not feed bread to the wild ducks and geese. If I feel the need to feed them I will purchase cracked corn or some other healthy feed.
I will only put my wrappers, bottles, cans, cigarette butts, or other trash in approved trash containers. If a trash container is full I will not add my trash to the overflow but will carry it to the next available bin.
I will re-use shopping bags. Preferably I will purchase re-usable cloth bags that will not deteriorate with use. I will recycle any plastic shopping bags that I will not re-use myself.
I will not flush my unwanted prescription medications down the toilet to add to the already overmedicated environment. I will return any of my unused medications to my pharmacist.
And above all, I will remember that I am not the only entity in the world that matters.
