The magic potion you need in your paint kit is WD 40. The WD in the name stands for “What Doesn’t it do?” It could cure stupidity and fix the economy if someone would let it. For now we’ll use it to clean latex brushes. First off, for painting latex paint you want a nylon/polyester brush. This is the brush that is often marked “For All Paints.” Purdy makes great brushes. Before you start working spray a film of WD 40 onto your brush and rub it into the bristles. This stops the paint from really sticking to the brush as it dries. Later, when you go to clean it the paint that has dried on the brush will fall away with a few swipes of a wire brush.
Lambs wool rollers cost about $10 and are worth it. For rolling flat paint on walls and ceilings they are great and they are the fastest to clean. If you are in the habit of buying $5 rollers and throwing them out because of the river of water it takes to clean them then a wool roller will pay for itself right away. The shortcut for cleaning synthetic rollers is throw them in a bucket of water and clean them the next day. I knew that would be a hit. The paint is heavier than water so most of it will have fallen to the bottom of the bucket.
Have fun Painting
