A client of mine called me for help choosing a color for her livingroom ceiling. She wanted something really "wow," she said. The ceiling was high and vaulted with a fantastic crown molding that took six pieces to construct. I gave her one idea, her decorator had a different idea and, as it turned out, her eight friends had eight other ideas. Some weeks later, when the work was done and it was ready to paint I went over and while I was setting up I asked, "So what are we doing?" "Navajo White" she said. I needed a winch to get my jaw off the floor. "There are just too many choices," she said. Such is the burden of freedom. It takes a lot of energy. "I don't really want white, but everyone says it raises the ceiling," she said. The ceiling was 19' high. It didn't need raising. We called a time out, had some coffee and created a battle plan. We settled on a shadowy earth green, profound and mysterious, somewhere between a greek olive and a nicoise. It was stunning. Give your dreams a fighting chance when it comes to color. It is one of those things that may take time to get really right but it's worth it. The cost of a spectacular can of paint and some sort of beige are about the same. Risk is storming a beach with machine guns shooting at you. Surrounding yourself with colors that make you happy can be tricky but it isn't risky.
Have fun Painting.
