Insects in the Home

I have been married for 22 years and my husband still reacts to wasps in the house by trying to swat them.  Just recently he nearly tore apart the bathroom trying to get one. Hearing the commotion I chased him, my husband, out and within a minute had captured and removed the wasp from my house - intact and alive.

My technique for insect removal is simple and fairly fool-proof, can be used with any insect, and requires only 2 common household items: a clear plastic or glass cup and a piece of paper.  For some reason, even though insects easily notice something coming fast to swat them, they don’t seem to notice a clear cup approaching slowly. So I wait until the insect has landed on a surface that I can reach, I place the opening of the cup over the insect and then slowly slide the piece of paper between the lip of the cup and the surface.  The insect is then safely trapped inside the cup with the paper covering the top and can then can be carried to an open window or door and let outside where it wants to be and belongs.

Though I have been stung numerous times while gardening by stepping on or accidentally grabbing a bee or wasp, I have never been stung while removing one from my house or my office at Teatown.
