This is our favorite time of year. Halloween is over, the leaves are down, sweaters are on, we are ready for the snow. The children are dropping hints regarding what they want for Christmas and I am dusting off Christmas Village. I often think of this time as a reflective period. What we have accomplished, what has changed & being thankful. Thankful for kids, health, family, the standards; But also, for our Birth Mothers.
We have two AWESOME Birth Mothers. They made the most unimaginable, unselfish , loving, courageous decision one human being could make. To give up their child knowing that it would be better with someone else. That is the definition of love. People often think of Birth Mothers as horrible women who did not love their kids and did not want the responsibility of taking care of them. You know, those awful stories that we read about, hear on the news or see on TV shows. They are the headline grabbers. When in truth, 95% of Birth Mothers and adoptions are the exact opposite. They are filled with heartbreak, a true understanding of self and devotion and trust in another person and tons of love.
My sons Birth Mother said to me, as handed me her precious baby, who was cradled in her loving arms- “Here is your son”. I don't know how she did that! I could not send him off to preschool for one hour with our crying and looking at his baby photos. My daughter's Birth Mother spent TWELVE WEEKS on bed-rest , to insure she delivered a healthy baby. I can barely sit thru my daughters recitation of “What I did today in school”, every day for a half hour. It takes a lot of love to be a mom but something so much more to be a Birth Mother! So I am thankful for Birth Mothers all over the world , but mostly for our two! Happy Thanksgiving, Elizabeth and Aisha!
