But before you go dashing off again, making lists and schedules, make sure to schedule some “Me” time for yourself. It’s important to “de-stress” your body. Not only can stress cause chronic fatigue, headaches, and back pain, but it can also negatively affect the blood cells that help you fight off infection. Constant stress can increase blood pressure, and the risk for stroke or heart attack.
There are several diffent ways to “de-stress.” Reflexology, a gentle foot accupressure, can help relieve many physical stressors, while Reiki is a calming, energy healing for the entire body. Massage provides hands-on relaxation, and yoga is great for stretching, breathing and meditating. Even a trip to the hair salon, a manicure or pedicure can relieve stress.
A quiet walk on a nature trail, a warm bubble bath, sipping a cup of green tea while listening to your favorite CD, or just curling up with a good book are easy, no-cost ways of reducing stress. For a quick “de-stresser,” try sitting silently for a few minutes with eyes closed, and take several slow, deep breaths in and out. This will allow you a momentary escape and also help you to refocus.
Reducing stess is beneficial to both your physical and emotional well-being.. So, as you prepare for the year ahead with your list of new projects to tackle, remember to schedule yourself on that list, in the “Me” category. You’ll be a lot healthier and happier for it!
